BI for MBA students

I've got the opportunity in 6 weeks to guest lecture for one eventing to an MBA class about Business Intelligence systems.  The course is a general Information Systems class that the MBAs are required to take, so I'd like to make sure the conversation does an effective job engaging them and helping them understand the role systems and technology play in supporting decision making.  Any thoughts or advice on important things to make sure I cover in 2 hours?

  1. Paul,

What a great opportunity! Would it make sense to talk on any of the following:

    * BI is becoming more operational; the data warehouse is no longer the sole provider of information for BI.

    * Data as a corporate asset.

    * Data used for BI is only as good as the data quality processes behind it. Bad data = Bad decisions.

These are the first things that came to mind. Hope this helps.

  2. Wow... great opportunity, Rob!

I'd touch on emerging trends, such as BI competency centers (BICC) and in-memory, BI. As my friend Brian Morgan writes in my upcoming book, IB is hardly standing still.

But, of course, you already know this.
